About us

A home open to travelers

Ou Crierel is a small family-run hostel, born from the desire to promote Lillianes and the Lys Valley through simple and sincere hospitality. Here you will not find a large, impersonal hotel, but a mountain home open to travelers: hikers, families, groups of friends, pilgrims along the Balteo Way, or simply curious people in search of nature and tranquility.

We live in this area every day and are happy to share its trails, hidden corners, traditions, and flavors. We welcome you with discretion, but are always available for advice on a walk, hike, or trip in the surrounding area. Our goal is to make you feel at ease, with everything you need to feel good, without formalities and with the slow pace of village life.

Why “Ou Crierel”?

Opposite the entrance to the hostel is a small historical monument that the inhabitants of Lillianes have always called “Ou Crierel.” It was here that, from May 31, 1614—the date of the founding of the Parish of Lillianes—until the end of World War II, the “cries” were proclaimed, i.e., official announcements addressed to the population, first of noble origin and then of the community.

At a time when most people could not read and announcements were written in Latin, this place played a fundamental role: at the end of Mass and before the distribution of blessed bread, the “crieur” read aloud in patois – the language of the people – important announcements, notices about taxes (“tailles”) and summonses to appear before the civil courts.

The “Ou Crierel” newsstand still stands today where it was built centuries ago, in the square in front of the parish church, where people gathered every Sunday. It was, in effect, a meeting place. Choosing this name for the 17th-century building that now houses the hostel is a wish: that Ou Crierel will continue to be a meeting place, a place of exchange and encounter for travelers, tourists, and vacationers from all over the world.
